Wolbachia
Reproductive manipulation by a bacterial endosymbiont
Wolbachia can induce parthenogenesis in its host, which can facilitate its own transmission. So far, this induction has only been proven in haplodiploid species. However, its presence in Nephus voeltzkowi could indicate a novel host taxon. Additionally, I am investigating the role of Wolbachia in the maintenance of parthenogenetic lineages of Aptinothrips grass thrip species where I have shown widespread horizontal transmission of the infection.
